I am providing you with brief updates on some of the Town’s continuing projects and events.

Stormwater Drainage Project - South Phase – On April 18, 2005 Chaz Equipment Company, Inc. (Chaz) was given the notice to proceed to start work on the South Phase of the stormwater drainage project.  The contractor (Chaz) has completed the installation of the 48” force main pipe that runs along A-1-A from Tropical Drive to   Woolbright Road.  The contractor has completed the installation of the (3) drainage culvert pipes across A-1-A in the area between Woolbright Road and Adams Road and they have been connected to the force main along the east side A-1-A to the detention area on the west side of the road.   All of the drainage structures along     A-1-A have been installed.  The finishing of this work has completed nearly all of the excavation work along A-1-A.  In January the contractor will be starting to excavate in the road on Tropical Drive for the installation of the Tropical Drive pump station.  The contractor will also be installing the 5 electric pumps in the pump station for the detention area.  The contractor is continuing with dewater discharge monitoring for the detention area and submitting daily test reports.  The engineer’s survey crew has started to collect as built data for the project.  The contractor requested and was approved for a change order to the contract for $38,168.00 for additional projects costs due to the Ixora Way power pole conflict, additional survey costs and additional costs for clearing.  The contractor was originally supposed to be substantially complete with the project in two hundred forty eighty (248) days from the notice to proceed date.  The contractor requested and was approved for a time extension to the project of one hundred and thirty three (133) days which would make the new date for substantial completion as May 3, 2006.

State Revolving Fund Loan – On December 23, 2005 a disbursement request for construction for the South Phase of the stormwater drainage improvements was submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).  This disbursement was for construction services of $679,316, mechanical equipment of $315,735 and technical services during construction of $23,826 for a total disbursement in the amount of $1,018,877.  On December 23, 2005 the Town also submitted to the FDEP for approval the executed change order to the South Phase contract for additional projects costs due to the Ixora Way power pole conflict, additional survey costs and additional costs for clearing.  The contract amount will be increased by this change order in the amount of $38,168.00.  The new contract amount including this change order will be $4,132,846.75.

Stormwater Drainage Pipe Cleaning – The Town’s contractor Rockline Vac Systems, Inc. completed the cleaning of the stormwater drainage pipes in the north end of Town.  Due to the debris from Hurricane Wilma they have started to clean the stormwater drainage pipes in the south end of Town.  They are cleaning the drainage pipes and catch basins from Hudson Avenue all the way south to Douglas Drive.  The work should be completed by the January.

Hurricane FundingAt the November Town Commission Meeting the Town approved a disaster funding agreement for Hurricane Wilma with the State of Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA).  According to the agreements the DCA shall provide funding to the Town of Ocean Ridge for eligible emergency assistance activities for the projects approved by the DCA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) specifically described in the submitted Project Worksheets.  The approved project worksheets will document the total eligible costs for funding we will receive.  As a condition of receipt of this funding, the Town similarly agrees to provide funding for any items not paid by Federal or State funds for eligible costs.  The final payment of funds will be made only after project completion, submission of all required documentation, final inspection, and a request for reimbursement.
