Town Update - October 2005 Stormwater Drainage Project - South Phase – On April 18, 2005 Chaz Equipment Company, Inc. (Chaz) was given the notice to proceed to start work on the South Phase of the stormwater drainage project. The contractor (Chaz) has completed all the pouring of the concrete for the floor, sides and top of the pump station for the detention area. They have started the installation of the 48” force main pipe that runs along A-1-A from Tropical Drive to the detention area on Woolbright Road. They have completed the installation of the 48” pipe on Tropical Drive and have installed approximately 800 feet of the 48” pipe on A-1-A and our now working north toward the detention area. The contractor is continuing with dewater discharge monitoring for the detention area and submitting daily test reports. The engineer’s survey crew has started to collect as built data for the project. The Contractor will be requesting an extension of the agreement due to the delay of the removal of the power pole. The Contractor was originally supposed to be substantially complete with the project in two hundred forty eighty (248) days from the notice to proceed date.
The Contractor is proposing a road closure sometime during the month of October on State Road A-1-A between Woolbright Road and Ocean Avenue. The closure is for the installation of a pipe across A-1-A at Adams Road and also Woolbright Road. This closure will allow local traffic only. It is anticipated that the closure will be for one week. This road closure proposal is pending approval from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). A notification will be made when this work will be scheduled.
State Revolving Fund Loan – On September 2, 2005 a disbursement check in the amount of $661,815 for construction for the South Phase of the stormwater drainage improvements was received from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). This disbursement was for construction services of $594,157, mechanical equipment of $45,545 and technical services during construction of $22,113 for a total disbursement in the amount of $661,815.
Stormwater Drainage Pipe Cleaning – The Town’s contractor Rockline Vac Systems, Inc. has started to clean the stormwater drainage pipes in the north end of Town. They are cleaning the drainage pipes and catch basins on Inlet Cay Drive, Spanish River Drive, Eleuthera Drive, Bimini Cove Drive, River Drive, Sabal Island Drive, Island Drive, Island Drive South, Marlin Drive, Bonita Drive and along A-1-A north of the Town Hall. The work should be completed in the beginning of October.
Hurricane Funding – In September 2005 the Town received checks in the amount of $66,318.63 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster relief funding as part of the public assistance program. These funds were to reimburse the Town for debris removal in the amount of $40,334.44 and emergency protective measures in the amount of $11,426.52 for Hurricane Frances. These funds were also to reimburse the Town for debris removal in the amount of $14,557.67 for Hurricane Jeanne. The total amount so far that the Town has received from FEMA for last year’s hurricanes is $194,524.79. Town Signage – The Town’s sign contractor has installed the New Street identification signs and the attached Stop signs along Sabal Island Drive, River Drive, Inlet Cay Drive, Spanish River Drive, Eleuthera Drive, Bimini Cove Drive, Coconut Lane, Anna Street, Beachway Drive, Osprey Drive, Dolphin Drive and Dolphin Bend. They will be continuing to install the next batch of street signs. This is part of the Town’s signage project to replace the rest of the signs throughout the Town.
