Public Notice to Water System Customers of the City of Boynton Beach Utility

The City of Boynton Beach Water Utility will be temporarily changing its water treatment disinfection process to free chlorination beginning Tuesday, January 12, 2021 through Monday, February 1, 2021. This is a standard practice process in which we switch to a stronger disinfectant method in order to ensure that the potable water delivered to the customer is of the highest quality. As a result, customers may notice a slight change in odor and taste in their water; otherwise, there will be no adverse effects. Customers particularly sensitive to the taste and odor of chlorine may keep an open container of drinking water in their refrigerators for a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Because of this change, users of home dialysis machines, owners of tropical fish and shellfish are advised to seek professional guidance on how to operate their equipment during this period as the method for removing chlorine residuals differs from removing chloramine residuals from tap water. Any changes will be eliminated when the Utility reverts to our normal disinfection method at the end of this chlorine flush period. Please be assured that this is a routine procedure and that there are no problems with your water supply. For further information, please call the City's Water Quality Division at 561-742-6964 during working hours, Monday through Friday.
